Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI), is an agency under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). Serving as the focal point, coordination centre and think tank for the nation’s automotive industry, it functions to enhance technology, human capital, supply chain, market outreach and aftersales capabilities of all automotive stakeholders and ecosystems.
The IMP3 recommended for an Automotive Institution be established in 2006 to provide the platform for automotive industrialists to come together to formulate strategies in facing the challenges ahead. Other automotive developed nations lay the responsibilities of developing their automotive sector on their respective Automotive Institution specifically established and well equipped to assist the development of their automotive sector. MITI through the BCIC2 Automotive Cluster and JKP Automotive has followed through the recommendation from the IMP3 to develop an Automotive Institute and the formation of the Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) was announced by YAB PM in March 2009.
MAI has been incorporated on 16 April 2010, to function as an independent non-profit organization under the custodian of MITI.
